August 2011 - Admission Process for Traditional BSN Degree

Enrollment to the Sentara College of Health Sciences: For August 2011 Program Start Date
Submit your completed application for admission with the non-refundable $50 administrative processing fee, Program specific college-level general education course requirements, high school transcript, GED, or Home School completion verification, and official or unofficial college transcripts. Application - Apply by December 20, 2010. The sooner the application is received the sooner you will be reviewed and accepted.
- In order to submit an application for the Traditional BSN Program, you must have thirty (30) general education credits, to include 3 of the 4 sciences, with EITHER a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all college transcripts OR a G.P.A. of 3.0 on the general education course requirements AND a minimum of "C" in each general education course requirement. The 30 credit minimum does not include the Fine Art Elective or the History Elective. See the Traditional BSN page on www.sentara.edu for the complete list of general education course requirements.
- If turning in unofficial, please submit official within 10 days. Do not hold your application waiting on officials. You may order officials after the application has been turned in.
- Notification of acceptance to Sentara College of Health Sciences is after your application has been accepted.
- Once you have been accepted to the College you will be assigned an advisor and receive information about your pre-nursing prerequisite on-line courses and registration.
- All on-line courses must be completed with a C or above before beginning the August 2011 Program Start Date. NUR 214 is a hybrid with a skills lab component.

Requirements and Process for Admission to Sentara College of Health Sciences:
Step 2A: Completion of Preadmission Testing by 2-1-11
Schedule and take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) and Career Assessment Inventory (CAI) administered by the College. - Prepare for Testing for the TEAS by visiting www.atitesting.com. (TEAS test to study for is Version 4 up through Oct. 31, 2010. Version 5 will be used starting on Nov. 1, 2010.)
- You will be contacted by Student Services to schedule your preadmission test or you may register on-line under "sign-up for testing" or call 757-388-2666.
- Each TEAS test is $25.00 and is the responsibility of the applicant. The College accepts cash, credit, or checks.
- You have two opportunities to take the TEAS test by 2-1-11.
Step 2B: Submission of Documents Due by 2-1-11 - Submit outstanding official transcripts of the remaining general education courses. All general education requirements, except Art and History, must be completed before the August 2011 Program start date. It is advised that you complete the remaining courses by the end of Spring term. Forty (40) credits must be completed. Art and History may be completed before graduation of the Nursing Program. The grade criteria must be met for all remaining general education course requirements.
- Essay-Choose from the following essay questions: 1) I am interested in becoming a professional nurse because... 2) What characteristics do you possess that would facilitate successful completion of this professional nursing program? Essays will be completed by the above deadline and submitted to the Main Campus in Chesapeake, attentioned to Nursing Admissions-Essay. The essay will be two pages, double-spaced, 12 font and must be submitted in hard copy to Nursing Admissions. The essay must have the honor pledge written on the bottom of the essay with the signature of the student as follows: "I have not given or received aid on this work, and I shall immediately report any breach of the Honor Code."
Step 2C: Certified Nursing Assistance completion by Program start date- August 2011 - The Nurse Aide course must be an approved Virginia Board of Nursing (NNAAP) course in order for you to complete the exam. The course and exam with the Commonwealth of Virginia must be successfully completed by Program start date (August 2011).
- SCOHS offers a Nurse Aide Course twice per year. If you have any questions about openings for the Course, please contact Sue Lamb at salamb@sentara.com
- Provide a copy of the C.N.A. license by the Program start date. In order to ensure you have the license by the start date, your course should be finished by the beginning of June before the start date.

January 2011 & January 2012 - Admission Process for RN to BSN Degree

Enrollment to the Sentara College of Health Sciences: For January 2011 & 2012 Program Start Date
Submit your completed application for admission with the non-refundable $50 administrative processing fee, Program specific college-level general education course requirements, high school transcript, GED, or Home School completion verification, and official or unofficial college transcripts. Application - Application deadline for January 2011 is 10-01-2010. Application deadline for January 2012 is 8-1-2011.
- In order to submit an application for the RN to BSN Program, you must have twenty-five (25) general education credits, to include 3 of the 4 sciences, with a EITHER A PREFERRED cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all college transcripts OR A PREFERRED G.P.A. of 3.0 on the list of general education course requirements and a minimum grade of "C" in each general education course requirement. The 25 credit minimum does not include the Fine Art Elective or the History Elective. See the RN to BSN page on www.sentara.edu for the complete list of general education course requirements. If you feel you do not meet the PREFERRED requirement, we encourage you to submit your application anyway.

Requirements and Process for Admission to Sentara College of Health Sciences Nursing Department:
Step 2A: Register for on-line pre-nursing, prerequisite courses
Once the College notifies you of College acceptance, you will receive information concerning registering for the 6 on-line pre-nursing, prerequisite courses. - NUR 214 must be completed before Program start date (January 2011 or 2012). The remaining five may completed at any time between notification of College acceptance and graduation of the RN to BSN Program.
Step 2B: The following information is due by 10-1-10 (Jan. 11) or 8-1-11 (Jan. 12) - Submit remaining official transcripts of the remaining general education courses. RN to BSN students may complete the remaining general education courses by Program graduation. All general education courses must, at all times, remain at the grade requirements submitted at application for consideration.
- Essay - Choose from the following essay questions: 1) I am interested in becoming a professional nurse because... 2) What characteristics do you possess that would facilitate successful completion of this professional nursing program? Early Admission for High School Seniors

Enrollment to the Sentara College of Health Sciences:
Submit your completed application for admission with the non-refundable $50 administrative processing fee. All attachments requested on the application must be provided at the time of application. Application - If you graduated in 2010, apply no later than October 15, 2010.
- If you an upcoming graduate for 2011, apply no later than March 1, 2011.
- Notification of conditional acceptance to Sentara College of Health Sciences is after your application has been accepted.
- Once you have been accepted to the College you will be assigned a recruiter who will work with you concerning information about your prerequisite general education course requirements and other steps necessesary to your successful entry to the Nursing Program.

Requirements and Process for Full Admission to Sentara College of Health Sciences:
Step 2A: General Education Course Requirements - In order to be eligible to receive full acceptance to Sentara College of Health Sciences, you must have 30 general education credits, to include 3 of the 4 sciences but not to include the art and history. You must have EITHER a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on all college transcripts OR a 3.0 G.P.A. on the required general education courses. College general education courses are not offered at Sentara College of Health Sciences and must be taken at an accredited instituition. The thirty credit minimum must be completed within 1.5 years after high school graduation with the intent to complete the remaining list below, except Art and History electives, before the beginning of the junior year of Sentara College of Health Sciences. Grades must be maintained through completion of the general education course requirements.
- Advanced Placement courses with a "3" or above, Dual Enrollment courses, and CLEP exams are acceptable. Those transcript may be submitted at time of application or when you have proof of completion.
- Early Admission for High School Senior applicants who are intenting to proceed through College Acceptance and Nursing Admissions will be required to submit college level general education transcripts and proof of enrollment during the first year and a half upon completion of each semester, to their assigned recruiter. Early Admission applicants who do not complete the minimum general education course requirements within the first year and a half will become a regular applicant for the Traditional BSN Program and be notified in writing.
- Once you have completed your 30 credit minimum as described in Step 2A, you will receive your full acceptance to the College and be assigned an academic advisor. You will receive information about your pre-nursing prerequisite on-line courses and registration.
- All on-line courses must be completed with a "C" or above before beginning the Program Start Date (300 level). NUR 214 is a hybrid with a skills lab component.
